Servings: 4 servings
Yield: 4 sandwiches

Ingredients

  • 8 slices bacon
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 8 slices white bread
  • 8 slices American cheese
  • 8 slices tomato

Directions

  1. Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat until crisp and evenly browned. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess grease.
  2. Spread softened butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  3. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  4. Place 4 slices of bread in the skillet with the buttered side facing down.
  5. Top each slice with 1 slice of American cheese, 2 tomato slices, 2 bacon slices, and another slice of American cheese.
  6. Place the remaining bread slices on top with the buttered side facing outward.
  7. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese is fully melted.
  8. Remove from the skillet, slice in half if desired, and serve immediately.

Chefs Notes

  • Pat tomato slices dry with paper towels before assembling the sandwiches to prevent excess moisture.
  • For extra flavor, try using sharp Cheddar, Colby Jack, or pepper jack cheese in place of American cheese.
  • Cook over medium heat rather than high heat to ensure the cheese melts completely before the bread becomes too dark.
  • Serve with tomato soup, chips, or a simple side salad for a complete meal.
