Total Time: 1 hr 35 mins
Servings: 15
Yield: 1 (5-pound) ham

Ingredients

  • 1 (5-pound) ready-to-eat spiral-cut ham
  • 1/4 cup whole cloves (or as needed)
  • 2 cups honey
  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup dark corn syrup

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Line a roasting pan with foil for easy cleanup.
  2. Score the surface of the ham in a crosshatch pattern and insert whole cloves into the cuts. Place the ham in the prepared pan.
  3. In the top of a double boiler over medium heat, combine honey, butter, and corn syrup. Heat until the butter is fully melted and the glaze is smooth. Keep warm.
  4. Brush a generous layer of glaze over the ham and place it in the oven.
  5. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes, basting with additional glaze every 10 to 15 minutes to build flavor and moisture.
  6. During the final 4 to 5 minutes, switch the oven to broil to caramelize the glaze and create a golden, slightly crisp exterior.
  7. Remove from oven and let rest for a few minutes before serving.

Chefs Notes

  • Using a pre-sliced spiral ham allows the glaze to penetrate deeper, enhancing flavor throughout.
  • If you prefer a deeper caramel flavor, substitute part of the honey with brown sugar.
  • Keep a close eye during broiling to prevent burning—the sugars in the glaze caramelize quickly.
  • Save leftover ham for sandwiches, breakfast scrambles, or soups.
