Yield: 12 sliders

Ingredients

  • Cooking spray (such as Crisco®)
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 onion, minced
  • 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce, or more to taste
  • 1 (12-count) package Hawaiian sweet rolls, split
  • 1 pound sliced deli ham
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Add minced onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 5 to 10 minutes.
  3. Stir in Dijon mustard, poppy seeds, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring to combine flavors.
  4. Arrange the bottom halves of the rolls in the prepared baking dish.
  5. Spoon about two-thirds of the butter-onion mixture evenly over the roll bottoms.
  6. Layer sliced ham evenly over the rolls, followed by Swiss cheese.
  7. Place the top halves of the rolls over the cheese layer.
  8. Brush the remaining butter mixture evenly over the tops of the rolls.
  9. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 15 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and continue baking for 5 to 10 minutes, or until the tops are lightly browned.
  11. Allow sliders to rest for a few minutes before serving to help them hold together.

Chefs Notes

  • Add a pinch of garlic powder to the butter mixture for extra depth of flavor.
  • For a crispier top, bake uncovered for a few extra minutes.
  • Swap Swiss cheese with provolone or mozzarella for a different flavor profile.
  • These sliders can be assembled ahead of time and refrigerated before baking.
