Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound bacon, chopped
  • 1 (28-ounce) can baked beans with pork
  • 1 (15-ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (15-ounce) can lima beans, rinsed and drained
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon prepared mustard

Directions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and chopped bacon, cooking and stirring until the beef is fully browned and crumbly, about 7 to 10 minutes. Drain excess grease if needed.
  2. Transfer the cooked beef and bacon mixture into a slow cooker.
  3. Add the baked beans, kidney beans, lima beans, chopped onions, ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard. Stir everything together until well combined.
  4. Cover and cook on Low for 3 hours, or until the mixture is hot, thickened, and bubbling.
  5. Stir before serving and adjust seasoning if desired.

Chefs Notes

  • For a deeper smoky flavor, try adding a dash of smoked paprika or a splash of liquid smoke.
  • You can substitute ground turkey for a lighter version, though it will slightly change the flavor.
  • If you prefer less sweetness, reduce the brown sugar to 3/4 cup and taste before serving.
  • This dish reheats beautifully and often tastes even better the next day.
  • Serve with cornbread, coleslaw, or over baked potatoes for a complete meal.
